The Bethany College track and field team traveled to Friends University on Saturday (April 3) to compete in their second outdoor track meet of the season.

Forty-four seasonal personal records were broken during the one day competition along with two national qualifying marks hit.

Bethany sophomore Jenna Koch won the women's discus throw with a toss of 47.43m (155'10"). Koch's toss qualified her "A" standard for the NAIA Outdoor Nationals. She is also currently ranked number one in the discus for nationals to be held in May. New personal records set in the discus include: freshmen Sarah Johnson, (30.08m/98'8.25"), sophomore Mollie Dahl (33.50m/109'10"), sophomore Hannah Hemberger (33.81m/110' 11"), sophomore Catherine Spicer (35.13m/115'3"), and junior Josie Schamp (34.88m/114'5").

Another Swede win occurred in the women's hammer. Junior Jackie Rogers improved upon her NAIA national qualifying mark with a toss of 47.20m (154'10"). She also had a seasonal best in the women's shot-put with a toss of 11.80m (38'8.50"). Those setting new seasonal personal bests include:, Johnson (javelin: 35.30m/115'9"), Dahl (hammer: 38.14m/125'1"), Hemberger (shot-put: 10.68m/35'), Spicer (hammer: 33.66m/110'5" and javelin: 33.59m), Schamp (hammer: 32.34m/106'1"), Koch (shot-put: 12.43m/40'9"), and freshmen Heidi Brown (hammer: 28.39m/93'1").

The Bethany women's team did exceptionally well on the track. The women's 4x100m relay team placed second, crossing the line at 50.46. Those on the relay team included: sophomore Shane Valdez, sophomore Molly McElgunn, sophomore Courtney Chandler, and sophomore Courtney Gallardo. The women's 4x400m relay team also did well, placing third with 4:18.20, those running on the relay team include: freshmen Ashley Liddell, freshmen Meranda Encinias, sophomore Courtney Gallardo, and junior Jaci Kepler.

Gallardo had a great day on the track, not only was she in both relay teams she also ran both the 100m Dash (12.61 and the 200m dash (26.31) in which she PR'd in both. She also jumped a lifetime PR in the long jump (5.41m/17'8").

Another lifetime PR was hit by sophomore Shane Valdez, she triple jumped 10.68m (35'). Along with jumping she also PR'd in the 100m Hurdles (16.10). It was a great day in the women's hurdles, along with Valdez, Liddell and Kepler also set personal records in the 100m hurdles, Liddell with 16.32 and Kepler with a 17.31. Liddell also ran the 400m dash and placed fourth (1:04.28). Other personal bests on the women's side include: Encinias (200m dash: 27.71 and 100m dash: 13.05), Chandler (200m dash: 27.89 and 100m dash: 13.15), McElgunn (200m dash: 27.61 and 100m dash: 13.13), junior Lindsay Grivetti (200m Dash: 28.65 and 100m dash: 13.42), sophomore Sabrina Scroggins (5000m run: 22:02.29) and junior Kate Dibbern (1500m run: 5:01.81).

On the track the Bethany men's 4x100m relay team qualified "B" standard for the NAIA Outdoor National track meet. The team consisting of junior Theron "Junior" Allen, junior Nick O'Loughlin, sophomore Bryan Vanorsby, and sophomore Milton Collins crossed the line at 42.45.

O'Loughlin also placed second in the 200m dash with a seasonal PR of 22.05 and second in the 400m dash with another seasonal PR of 50.63. Other men that ran well on the track include: freshmen Jake Walker (200m dash: 24.17), freshmen Conor Reilly (400m dash: 57.59), freshmen Joe Jedrzejewski (800m dash: 2:11.70), freshmen Richard Stephens (Javelin: 48.77m/160"), sophomore Ty Bieker (400m hurdles: 1:01.70) and senior Lorenzo Araujo (400m hurdles: 1:09.47), and senior Jeremy Meyer (discus: 35.86m/117'7.50" and javelin: 42.87m/140'7.50").

The Swedes will be back in action this coming Saturday (April 10) at Sterling College for the ACCK Meet. The schedule of events is slated to begin at 12 p.m.
