The Bethany College men's basketball team won the 13th annual Thrivent for Lutherans Tournament hosted by California Lutheran University Dec. 29-30 in Thousand Oaks, Calif. The championship game was head coach Clair Oleen's 400th win as a Bethany head basketball coach.
The Swedes first defeated Milwaukee School of Engineering 75-69 and next faced Willamette University in the championship game, coming out on top 79-64. Both of Bethany's opponents compete in NCAA Division III.

"It is always a great experience for our student athletes to have the opportunity to travel to our sister school, California Lutheran, for the Thrivent Financial Tournament," said coach Oleen. Oleen added that the tournament is particularly special for the team members from Southern California who get to play in front of family and friends and for the area alums who come to support the Swedes.

Senior Anthony Javey, San Diego, Calif., was named tournament MVP and freshman Kelby Brown, Rossville, Kan., was named to the all-tournament team.
