The Bethany Cheer Squad promotes school spirit and interest in athletics by providing quality entertainment. The Squad, comprised of 12 to 25 men and women, leads pep rallies, cheers during football and basketball games, and performs during special athletic, alumni, and community events. All student-athletes have prior cheer experience on high school, college, or all-start teams; and they prioritize discipline, dedication, and responsibility towards their education and their team.
Practice
The Bethany Cheer Squad holds practice 3 to 4 days per week for 1.5 to 2 hours in addition to conditioning and performing. Student-athletes must also weight-train and practice individually to maintain optimal physical condition and knowledge of material.
Athletic trainers are available to all athletic programs, and the Squad is equipped with cheerleading mats, an incline mat, tumbling barrel, and a back handspring trainer. One practice per week is spent off-campus at a gymnastics gym to access tumbling equipment.
Each year the Squad builds skills and choreography by attending camps, competitions, and private instruction sessions.
Community Involvement
The Squad hosts the annual "Lil' Swedes" Junior Cheer & Dance camp with the Dance Team for K-14 girls to teach cheerleading and dance skills, build self-esteem, and promote teamwork and a healthy lifestyle. The Squad also performs at the KSHAA Kansas Spirit Spreader day clinic held for middle and high school cheer and dance teams in Kansas.
