Greg Mittelsteadt - Head Coach
The Bethany College women’s basketball program is led by Greg Mittelsteadt. A veteran coach, Mittelsteadt spent 4 seasons as the women’s basketball coach at Avila University in Kansas City, MO and 5 seasons as the women’s basketball program at Highland Community College (KS).

Mittelsteadt successfully built the women’s program at Highland where he led his 2001-2002 team to a school’s best ever 5th place finish in the Kansas Jayhawk Conference and a berth in the NJCAA Region XI tournament. While at Avila, Mittelsteadt assisted the program in its transition to the Heart of America Athletic Conference as they twice qualified for HAAC postseason play.

A strong proponent of academics, Mittelsteadt’s teams have posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better each of the past nine seasons. His Highland teams were recognized as NJCAA Academic All-American teams each season from 1997-2002. In 2006, Mitttelsteadt’s Avila team received the prestigious Fred Geer Academic Cup.  The Geer Cup is awarded annually to the program that posts the top grade point average among Avila athletic teams.

In addition to his college coaching experience, Mittelsteadt has had a long and successful career as an AAU basketball coach. In 1997, his North-Tartan (MN) U15 team finished 5th at the AAU National Championships. In 2004, he led his U17 Higher Level Camps (WI) squad to a 7th place finish in the prestigious Nike Cup Tournament. With his assistance, many of his former AAU players enjoyed successful college careers at the NCAA Division I level. Two of his former players also went on to play professionally in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA).

A respected camp instructor, Mittelsteadt has served on the camp staffs at the University of Missouri, Missouri State University, the University of Marquette, and the University of Wisconsin. He currently serves as a consultant to Higher Level Camps, Inc, one of the largest summer basketball programs in Wisconsin. In July of 2006, Mittelsteadt was selected to serve as a site director for the U13 AAU Girls’ Basketball National Championships held in Kansas City, MO.

A native of Fond du Lac, WI, Mittelsteadt holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Martin Luther College (MN) and a master’s degree in counseling from Minnesota State University.
