Jay Myers - Assistant Coach
Jay Myers is the Assistant Cross Country and Track and Field Coach at Bethany College.
 
Myers comes to Bethany after retiring in July, '08 after 32 years teaching in Kansas public high schools, the last 25 at Smoky Valley in Lindsborg, Kan. He brings to Bethany 31 years of coaching experience, including 23 years in football. Myers spent seven years as a head coach, including two years as an assistant under previous Bethany football coach Dr. Kessinger and one year as head JV coach. In the two years at Bethany, the Swedes won the KCAC both times. While Myers was the defensive coordinator at SVHS, the Vikings were state champions in 1988 and runners-up in 1991.
 
He also has accumulated 24 years of coaching basketball. He spent 12 years as a head coach, two years as an assistant coach for the Swedes, and one year as head JV coach. While head basketball coach at SVHS, Myers and his squad had a run of winning league three out of four years after a 15-year winless streak.
 
Myers has 20 years of experience coaching track & field. In eight years as head coach at SVHS, the teams won six league championships, one girls' state championship, and one boys' state runnerup. 
 
As an assistant or head coach, Myers has coached athletes to school records 34 times, along with 43 state medalists and 15 state champions.
 
Myers' playing experience includes being one of only two tudents at Wichita Heights to have lettered in the combination of football, basketball, and track. He played basketball and ran track both years at junior college as well as played baseball for one year. At Bethany, Myers played basketball.
 
Myers has served as a clinician several times including the KSHSAA coaching school.
 
Myers is married to Debbie Myers. The couple has two children, Carly and Curits.
