Gregg Schmidt is in his first year as assistant coach for
the track and field team. Schmidt received his bachelor's degree in history
from Lynchburg College, Va., in 2004 and his master's degree in education from
St. Lawrence University, N.Y., in 2007.
Schmidt came to Bethany
from Lake Superior State University in Sault Saint Marie, Mich. His
coaching background includes assistant coaching duties at Iowa Central Junior
College, Valparaiso University, Ind., and
St. Lawrence University. He holds certifications as a USA Weightlifting sports
performance coach, a performance enhancement specialist with the National
Academy of Sports Medicine, and a USATF
Level I coach. From
2009 to 2010 he served on the NCAA
Division II Track and Field Executive Committee as a
Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Representative.
Schmidt was a member of St.
Lawrence University's Liberty League Coaching
Staff of the Year
for the indoor 2006 season, and he received
Lynchburg College's Coaches Award during
his 2002 sophomore year. Schmidt's experience
includes coaching two 2010 NCAA
Division II All Americans in indoor triple jump and outdoor triple jump, one 2010 NCAA
Division II National Champion in outdoor triple jump, eleven 2009 NJCAA Division I All Americans, two 2009 NJCAA
Division I National Champions in indoor pentathlon and outdoor heptathlon, and one 2010 USA Championship qualifying athlete.
