2026-27 ATHLETIC PARTICIPATION PAPERWORK GUIDELINES RELEASED
LINDSBORG, KAN. - The Bethany College Department of Athletics has released information about how to complete participation materials before arriving to campus.
Arrival Dates — 2026-2027 Academic Year
The following flow charts provide information for three categories of student-athletes - new freshman and transfers to Bethany, returning student-athletes who completed ATS online paperwork in the Spring 2025, and returning student-athletes who DID NOT complete ATS online paperwork.
Student-athletes are required to complete all the information on the flow chart prior to beginning athletic practices/workouts/conditioning.

All student-athletes are required to have valid, qualifying primary insurance throughout the entire academic year. All student-athletes are required to complete the insurance waiver process twice per year; once prior to the start of fall semester, and once prior to the start of spring semester. Insurance will be verified throughout the year. All international students are required to enroll in the United Healthcare Student Resources Plan, as well as student-athletes who do not have valid, qualifying primary insurance that can be verified. The cost for United Healthcare is $2,308 for undergraduates and $3,430 for graduate students; coverage dates are 8/1/26-7/31/27. The charge will be administered on students' accounts as follows: The charge for the fall semester (first waiver period) is $967 for undergraduates and $1,437 for graduate students; the charge for the spring semester (second waiver period) is $1,341 for undergraduates and $1,993 for graduate students. If your insurance waiver is approved, once the approval is complete, the Business Office will remove the charges from your student account. This may take up to a few weeks.

The insurance waiver deadline for the fall semester is September 13, 2026. The insurance waiver deadline for spring semester is January 31, 2027.

In addition, all student-athletes have a mandatory fee of $250 for secondary/catastrophic insurance. Pre-existing injuries as defined by a physician, as well as non-athletics related injuries/illness, are not covered by secondary insurance.
When a student-athlete sustains an athletics-related injury, student-athletes must report the injury immediately to the Athletic Training staff. The student-athlete's primary insurance is billed first. Once primary insurance has been billed, the BMI secondary policy then needs to be billed (see instructions here). Any balance remaining after both primary and secondary insurances have been billed is the student-athlete's responsibility. Bethany College has no control over what insurance companies choose to cover and pay; the College is not responsible for payment of medical bills.

If you have primary insurance, you MUST upload your card to opt-out of Bethany's insurance program (and not be charged).

If you do not have valid primary insurance, you must enroll through United Healthcare Student Resources Plan. International students will automatically be enrolled in the United Healthcare Student Resources Plan and cannot opt-out.
Deadline to submit proof of other insurance is September 13, 2026 for the Fall 2026 semester and January 31, 2027 for the Spring 2027 semester.

Complete physical and orthopedic screening:
Physicals and orthopedic screenings for fall student-athlete newcomers will be completed on the Bethany College campus on August 5, 2026 by Bethany College Athletic Trainers, our team physician (Dr. Pyle), and his team. The cost of the physicals is $30; student-athletes must have cash or check at the time of the physical. Please make checks payable to SRHC. This is MANDATORY and NO other physicals will be accepted. Returners will need a physical if you did not get a physical in the 2025-26 acadmeic year. Returners who do not need a physical will complete this waiver.
Physicals and orthopedic screenings for winter and spring student-athlete newcomers will be completed on the Bethany College campus on August 11, 2026 by Bethany College Athletic Trainers, our team physician (Dr. Pyle), and his team. The cost of the physicals is $30; student-athletes must have cash or check at the time of the physical. Please make checks payable to SRHC. This is MANDATORY and NO other physicals will be accepted. Returners will need a physical if you did not get a physical in the 2025-26 academic year. Returners who do not need a physical will complete this waiver.
If deemed necessary, further evaluation in-clinic will result in charges to students' primary insurance.

*******Please note: Bethany does verify insurance throughout the academic year. Any lapse in coverage will result in automatic enrollment in insurance through United Healthcare Student Resources.
All new student-athletes will have a charge for UHC's insurance. The charge will be removed by Bethany once qualifying insurance is verified. The deadline to verify/purchase insurance for the Fall 2026 semester is September 13, 2026. The deadline to verify/purchase insurance for the Spring 2027 semester is January 31, 2027.
