TALE OF TWO TEAMS IN TOMBALL

Tomball, Texas – The Bethany College Swedes Baseball team were originally supposed to play in a quad featuring the Oklahoma Panhandle State Pioneers, Jarvis Christian Bulldogs, and Texas Wesleyan Rams, with the Swedes playing the latter foes in Fort Worth, Texas Due to unfavorable weather predictions, all teams wound up playing in Tomball, Texas at the Premier Baseball of Texas Complex.

SERIES VS BULLDOGS: W 12-10, W 9-2

The Swedes racked up 21 runs in total over the two games against the Bulldogs. Four Swedes would bat over .500 with Ryan Smith having the best bat going 4-5 with two RBI, two runs scored, and two walks. Melvin Laracuente went a perfect 2-2 with a double and an RBI. Conner Balmer led Bethany with 3 RBI in the two-game series.

On the mound, Jan Maldonado-Cruz had the best outing with a complete game in game two allowing just six hits, two runs, and two walks while striking out 7 for a WHIP of 1.14.

SERIES VS RAMS: L 0-15, L 1-5

The Swedes struggled to muster anything against a tough Rams team. Bethany only totaled two hits in the series. The highlight on offense was Jack Crain tallying a hit in his lone plate appearance in game one.

On the mound, the best outing was had by Christian Gonzalez who pitch a perfect inning in relief in game two.

The Swedes return back to Lindsborg before taking on the Hesston College Larks in a home and away split series over Super Bowl weekend. Games one and two will be in Newton, Kan. beginning at 12:00 PM while games three and four will be the Swedes' home opener beginning at 11:00 AM.
