SWEDES SPLIT WEEKEND SERIES WITH BUILDERS 1-2

Lindsborg, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Baseball team hosted the Southwestern Builders for a three-game weekend series in Lindsborg. The Swedes battled throughout the series and were able to secure a strong win in the middle game behind timely hitting and solid pitching.

GAME 1: SWEDES 3, BUILDERS 10

Bethany jumped out to an early lead, plating two runs in the bottom of the first inning and adding another in the second. Fernando Bones got things started with two hits on the day, while Manny Gonzalez also collected two hits and drove in a run. Adrian Rodriguez added an RBI as well.

Joseph Guzman got the start on the mound and worked 6.0 innings, allowing three runs while striking out five. The Builders were able to pull away late in the contest with a big eighth inning, despite the Swedes tallying nine hits in the game.

GAME 2: SWEDES 11, BUILDERS 3

The Swedes bounced back in a big way in game two, exploding offensively to secure an 11–3 victory. Bethany plated six runs in the second inning to take control of the contest.

Adrian Rodriguez had a huge performance, driving in four RBIs on two hits. Eduardo Tarafa added two hits and two RBIs, while Fernando Bones reached base multiple times, scoring twice and adding an RBI. Trenton Verplank also contributed with a hit, RBI, and two stolen bases.

On the mound, Jan Maldonado-Cruz delivered a strong outing, pitching 7.0 innings while allowing just three runs and striking out five. Giovanny Orozco came in to close out the final two innings and recorded three strikeouts.

GAME 3: SWEDES 2, BUILDERS 6

Bethany was limited offensively in the final game of the series, managing three hits in the contest. Manny Gonzalez and Conner Balmer each recorded hits, with Balmer driving in both Swedes runs with a double.

Wesly Martinez started on the mound and pitched 5.0 innings, striking out four. Jesus Rujano and Daniel Puente combined to finish the final two innings in relief.

The Swedes will travel to Nebraska on Tuesday, March 17 to take on York University in their next matchup.
