SWEDES START STRONG; FALL TO No. 14 BETHEL 42-7
Lindsborg, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Football took on the No. 14 Bethel College Threshers in Lindsborg, Kansas. After an exciting first half, the Threshers took control in the second half to go home with a 42-7 win.
Bethel scored on their opening drive to start the game up 7-0, but the Swedes would answer back with a scoring drive on their first possession as well. Sophomore Demetric Toney would reel in a deflected long ball from freshman Alec Giragosian for a 52-yard score and tie it up at 7 apiece.
Bethany would force Bethel to punt on their next possession, but the Swedes would turn the ball over trying to convert a fourth and one that came up short. On the succeeding possession, the Threshers would chip away with yards until they found the endzone on a 10-play, 37-yard drive to take a 14-7 lead to halftime.
In the second half, Bethel would start to run away with the game. Midway into the third quarter, a bad snap over the Zeke Mumford's head led to a Thresher score. In the fourth quarter, Bethel would tack on 3 more touchdowns to wrap this one up 42-7.
Leading the Swedes offense was Alec Giragosian with 165 yards through the air going 14 for 29 with one touchdown. Leading the receivers in catches and yards was Demetric Toney with 8 receptions for 78 yards and a score.
For the defense, sophomore linebacker Julian Carpenter led the entire game in tackles with 16 (10 solo, 6 assisted). Freshman linebacker Calvin Geans and freshman defensive back Connor Payomo both tallied double-digits tackles with 12 and 11 respectfully. Carpenter, along with freshman defensive lineman Monico Martinez and freshman defensive back Kam'ron Brown, each recorded 1 sack. Geans and junior defensive tackle Sterling Mack each forced a fumble leading to turnovers on both. Sophomore defensive back Shane Harris tallied the only pass break up for Bethany in the first quarter.

The Bethany College Swedes Football Team will start their 2-game road trip in Sterling, Kansas to face the Sterling College Warriors in Smisor Stadium. Both teams are looking for their first win of the 2022 campaign. Kickoff is set for 1:30 PM CT.
