SWEDES LOSE ON A LATE GAME-WINNING GOAL BY OTTAWA
Ottawa, Kan. - The Bethany College Men's Soccer team hit the road to matchup against Ottawa University on Friday night.
Ottawa comes into the game as the number one team in the conference and they showed flashes as to why they are at the top. Early on in the game the Braves executed their game plan perfectly as they were able to jump out just 10 minutes into the game on a goal from Slobodan Novicevic assisted by Martin Basso. The Swedes did not let that goal get to them as they continued to battle all half. Offensively, the Swedes took 7 shots in the half and the Braves keeper, Gage Powers, saved 4 of them. It was a well fought game on both ends and the trend continued all night.
In the second half of the match both teams came out playing pretty evenly. It was a back and forth matchup with not much action until late in the game. The Swedes kept challenging the Braves defenders by adding an additional 6 shots in the half. They were finally able to capitalize in the game in the 70th minute when Nathan Asiedu took a free kick into the box and found Abraham Arrieta for the header. This goal would bring the match all tied up at 1-1 with only 20 minutes remaining. Unfortunately, the Swedes could not hold the Braves attack as they went downfield with a couple great passes by Martin Basso and Jonathan Rawayo and were able to connect with Francisco Arrua for the game winning goal.
After the match this brings Ottawa University's conference record to 6-0-1 and Bethany College confrence record to 2-3-1.
