SWEDES GET SHUTOUT 2-0 AGAINST UNIVERSITY OF SAINT MARY

Leavenworth, Kan. - The Bethany College Men's Soccer team was on the road Saturday afternoon to take on University of Saint Mary. 

The Swedes would be held quiet throughout the game losing by the score of 2-0. With the loss the Swedes conference record stands at 3-5-2 and with the win Saint Mary's record now to 6-2-2. 

In the first half, it was all Saint Mary's as they took 10 shots in the half. They applied pressure to the Swedes defenders but nothing was getting past keeper Jake Goldstein. Goldstein had 7 saves in the half and kept his team alive. Unfortunately for the Swedes, the offense did not show up at all as they took 0 shots and 0 corners in the half. Defense stepped up huge for the Swedes allowing the game to remain tied up at 0-0 going into halftime. 

Just 41 seconds into the second half the Spires were finally able to get something on the board. While trying to clear the ball out of the box freshman Steven McQueen was called for a hand-ball. The Spires were granted the penalty kick and Romario Harding lined up to take the shot and scored. This put the Spires ahead 1-0 in the 45:41 mark. With the entire second half to still be played the Swedes were not out of it just yet. On a counter-attack the Swedes had a chance to tie the match back up when Shaid Mclean broke past defenders to take a one on one shot that was blocked by the Spires keeper Come Grieu. That would be the only 1 of 2 shots that the Swedes would take in the entire game. On the other end of the field, the Spires were still attacking, taking an additional 8 shots. In the match the Spires took 18 total shots and Jake Goldstein would account for 10 saves. The second goal of the match would be added in the 68th minute of the match when Anthony Rangel passed to Romario Harding to shoot it in for his 2nd goal of the game. That would be all the action in the game as Saint Mary's goes on to defeat the Swedes 2-0.
