Late Goals Lift Hesston Over The Swedes

Lindsborg, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Men's Soccer team faced Hesston College in their second match of the season.

Originally scheduled to be played in Hesston, Kan., the game was moved to Coach Ted Kessinger Family Stadium due to field conditions at the Larks' facility. The match got off to a promising start with chances for both sides, plenty of offsides, and early attempts to test each goalkeeper. However, the rhythm soon slowed as fouls, offsides, and some delays from the officiating crew disrupted the flow of play. The best opportunities of the opening half came for the Swedes through a pair of free kicks near the edge of the box.

The second half began much like the first, with both teams struggling to establish control in midfield and relying heavily on long balls. The match shifted in the 60th minute when Hesston's Isaias Rodriguez received his second yellow card, leaving the Larks down a man. While the advantage could have favored the Swedes, it instead created added pressure and urgency that disrupted their rhythm. Bethany's best chance came in the 66th minute when Emmanuel Dukuly's shot was stopped by the Hesston goalkeeper.

Despite continued efforts, the Swedes were unable to capitalize, and with roughly 10 minutes remaining, the Larks broke the deadlock after a scramble in the box following a corner kick. Pushing numbers forward in search of an equalizer, Bethany left spaces at the back, and Hesston's Yura Yamasaki struck a second goal to seal the 2–0 result and dash the Swedes' hopes of a late comeback.
