SWEDES COMPETE IN TRIANGULAR

SWEDES COMPETE IN TRIANGULAR

Edmond, Okla. - On March 7, the Swede Netters travelled to Edmond, OK to test themselves against two Texas schools, Texas A&M-Texarkana and Texas Wesleyan University.

The Swedes started the day against ranked opponents from TAMU. The women were unable to get any traction in doubles, eventually losing all three sets. On the men's side, the Swedes were able to claim the doubles point with wins at #2 (Sebastian Stipanov, JR & Gustavo Cardoso, FR; 7-5) and #3 (Diego Bsereni, JR & Dylan Gwilt, SO; 6-4).

In singles, the women had the same challenges as in doubles. The women ended up battling but losing with a team score of 0-7. The men's matches were competitive, but ended up dropping the match to TAMU with a team score of 2-5. The lone singles win on the day came from #3 Martin Priban, JR with a score of 7-5, 6-4.

After the first round of matches, the Swedes second match of the doubleheader was against Texas Wesleyan. The ranked women's team had similar results as the first match, an eventual 0-7 loss for the Swedes. The men played with an adjusted lineup, and played slightly past clinch for an ending score of 1-5 in favor of the team from Texas. The men's single win on the day came at #4, a 6-3, 2-6, 11-9 battle from Santiago Stipanov, FR.

After the road trip, Coach DeWitt had this statement: "I thought our players battled hard today. Fatigue was a bit of an enemy, but we needed to play back to back to get some growth I think. The women drew a really, really hard matchup but continued to battle throughout. I thought they did some good things that we can build on. I think the men had a great match against A&M, especially considering some of the non-tennis challenges we faced. The guys were resilient, and we'll learn from that one. It was good to get some of our younger guys and gals matches against Wesleyan, and we'll get some good growth from those. We've got to get healthy, but we'll be ready in a few days for Saint Mary."

The Swedes return to play in Leavenworth against the Saint Mary's Spires on March 7. Go Swedes!
