SWEDES COMEBACK NOT ENOUGH TO DEFEAT COYOTES

Salina, Kan. - The Bethany College Volleyball team traveled to Salina, Kansas to take on the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes. The Swedes were down two sets to none before the Swedes took a hold of the momentum, winning the third and fourth sets, tying up the match 2-2. The late comeback was not enough, losing the match in five sets. 

 

The first set started off back and forth but the Swedes were unable to string together a big streak. The Coyotes also were unable to go on a big point streak but were landing points more consistently, securing the first set 18-25. The second set was a lot closer, with the Swedes falling short only three points. Bethany and Kansas Wesleyan were trading off on who had the lead and ended up tied at twenty-one points. The Coyotes then went on a 3-point run making the score 24-21. Bethany scored a point but the Coyotes ended the second set with a kill and the score 22-25. The Swedes were not discouraged by being down two sets in the house of the Coyotes. The third set started off with the Coyotes going on a 7-point streak taking the lead 3-9. The Swedes answered back and chipped away making their way back and tying the score up at thirteen with an ace by McKenzie Scott. Bethany kept the momentum going and went up by a few points before Kansas Wesleyan took the lead 16-17. Staying in the game, Bethany tied it up again at twenty-one with a kill by Atlantis Jamerson. The Coyotes proceeded to take the lead before Alyssa George tied the score up once again at twenty-three points. The Swedes finished the set and avoided the sweep with back to back points with a kill from Zola Moore and an attack error from Kansas Wesleyan, making the third set score 25-23. The fourth set started off with both teams going back and forth. Bethany was down 11-14 until the Swedes went on a seven point streak, making the score 18-14. The Swedes took advantage of the four point lead and extended it to a five point lead with a service ace by Cameron Boyd. Bethany secured the set 25-20. Tying up the match 2-2. The Coyotes came out ready for the fifth set by scoring four points right away before the Swedes scored. Kansas Wesleyan continued and went on to score another seven points before Bethany scored again, making the score 2-11. The Swedes were unable to overcome the 7-point streak and dropped the set 7-15, losing the match in five sets. 

 

Alyssa George led the Swedes scoring 19.5 points on the night by making 18 kills, a service ace, and an assist on a block. Atlantis Jamerson scored 14.5 points by making 12 kills and having 5 block assists. Zola Moore scored 10.5 points with 7 kills and 7 assisted blocks.

The Swedes will be back on the court Saturday, November 5th for the last home game and regular season game of the year. The Bethany College Volleyball team will be hosting the York University Panthers in Hahn Gymnasium with the match starting at 2:00 PM.
