SWEDES FINISH THE REGULAR SEASON WITH A WIN AGAINST THE PANTHERS

Lindsborg, Kan. - The Bethany College Volleyball team hosted the York University Panthers for the Swedes' last regular season game of the year. Bethany came out firing on all cylinders and won the match in four sets. 

 

The Swedes started off the day by scoring first on a service error and went on a three point run soon after that. The Panthers answered back with a five point streak of their own, making the score 10-13. After a Bethany timeout the Swedes were able to regain the momentum and took the lead with a couple kills by Atlantis Jamerson and Zola Moore, putting the Swedes up 20-16. The Swedes kept the pressure on and secured the first set after a few errors from the Panthers. The Panthers woke up for the second set and scored four points right away before the Swedes got on the board with a kill by Britta Romisch. The Swedes then chipped their way back into the game making the score 12-10. The Panthers then went on an eight point streak, giving them a six point lead. The Swedes trailed 12-18 and attempted to comeback but were unable to overcome the six point deficit and dropped the second set 20-25. The third set started off with the Panthers scoring three points right away. Bethany answered back by making three kills, one by Justice Brackney and two by Atlantis Jamerson. The Panthers and the Swedes continued to battle through the set, as the teams were tied at eighteen points. The Swedes jumped in the lead with a kill by Alyssa George. From there the Swedes were able to keep the three point lead and secured the third set with an attack error from the Panthers. The fourth set started off back and forth until the score was tied at fourteen. Britta Romisch broke the tie and gave the Swedes the lead with a kill. The Swedes kept up the tempo and secured the set with an attack error by the Panthers, making the score 25-19. 

 

Britta Romisch led the Swedes by scoring 17 points. Romisch had 16 kills and only 3 errors out of 39 attempts, resulting in a .333 kill percentage. Zola Moore and Justice Brackney both scored 9.5 points with 8 kills each. Brackney only had 3 errors out of 22 attempts, making a .227 kill percentage. Cameron Boyd had 22 digs on the night along with 2 service aces.

The Bethany College Volleyball team will play the first round of playoffs on Tuesday, November 8th. The Swedes will be traveling to McPherson, Kansas to play against the McPherson Bulldogs. The match is set to start at 7:00PM.
