SWEDES SADDEN AFTER SENIOR DAY LOSS

Lindsborg, Kan. - Bethany College hosted the Friends University Falcons in their Senior Day, Saturday, November 2nd. The Swedes fell after a strong showing in the first set, 1-3, to the Falcons.

Set 1: The first set kicked off with a quick lead for the Swedes as the Falcons found themselves down by five at 11-6. Bethany continued to push points and extending their lead to seven at 20-13. The Swedes were hitting a .357 and finished the set 25-15 with 11 kills, 1 error on 28 attempts.

Set 2: The second set would be much closer as the Swedes were down a couple of points throughout the set starting at 3-5. This trend continued until the Falcons went on a run and the Swedes were down by five, 13-18. Bethany was determined to get back into the set and chipped away at the lead until they were within two at 17-19. Unfortunately, Friends would hold onto the lead until they finished the set at 22-25.

Set 3: The third set would be the hardest set for the Swedes as they struggled to earn kills and limit errors. Hitting a .020, Bethany dug themselves a hole early in the set, 4-8. That deficient would be maintained throughout the set until Friends extended it to seven, 14-21. The Swedes tried to gain momentum but just couldn't. The Falcons took set three, 15-25.

Set 4: Final set of the night started with 5 unanswered points for Friends, 0-5. The Swedes cut the lead down to three at 4-7. But Friends would pull away and extend their lead to eight at 8-16 and then by ten at 10-20. Bethany managed to chip away at the lead, 20-24, but weren't able to overcome the deficient. Friends took the 4th set, 20-25

Notable stats from this game include 9 kills by Ashlynn Gehring, 4 blocks by Melia Coleman, 20 digs by Michelle Acevedo Ortiz, 2 service aces and 20 assists by Mandy Knipp.

Up next, the Swedes are on the road at Sterling College taking on the Warriors Wednesday, November 6th, starting at 5:15pm for JV and 7pm for Varsity.
