Lindsborg, Kan. - The Bethany College Athletic Department has announced the addition of Jarrett Shives to the Bethany College Cross Country and Track & Field teams. He will serve as an assistant coach for both Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track & Field.
"We are excited to have Coach Shives officially join the coaching staff," said Director of Cross Country and Track & Field, Luke Samford. "As a volunteer last year, he demonstrated knowledge of coaching pole vault and will lead our athletes in other jumping events as well."
As mentioned earlier, Shives was a volunteer coach for the Swedes last year and coached Dylan Brice, now a junior, to two consecutive KCAC Pole Vault Championships and NAIA national appearances. Coach Shives also helped Brice set the school record in Pole Vault at 16' 8".
"I'm incredibly excited to be an official staff member, but my goals remain the same," Coach Shives said. "Those being to work towards nationals and give the athletes all the tools and expertise they need to be as successful as possible."
Shives just recently graduated from Bethany College with a Bachelor of Art in Biology.
