Swedes Start Strong but Fall to Ottawa at Home
The Bethany College Swedes came out firing on Saturday evening, jumping to an early lead against the Ottawa University Braves before ultimately falling 78–66 inside Hahn Gymnasium. Bethany's strong start energized the home crowd as the Swedes pushed the pace and knocked down early shots, setting the tone in the opening minutes.
David Mitchell delivered a standout performance, leading all scorers with 26 points while connecting on four three-pointers. His scoring helped fuel Bethany's early momentum and kept the Swedes within reach throughout the night. Daniel Bennett added 11 points, six assists, and six rebounds, providing steady play on both ends. Keddric Mays II contributed 12 points, including two threes, helping Bethany maintain its early advantage before Ottawa rallied.
Despite Bethany's fast start and a tight 33–31 score at halftime, Ottawa heated up in the second half, shooting over 53% from the field and 66% from three. The Braves used that efficiency to swing the momentum and gradually build their lead.
Bethany battled hard on the glass with 29 rebounds, but 16 turnovers proved costly as Ottawa capitalized on key possessions. Still, the Swedes showed resilience and energy, continuing to fight even as the Braves found their rhythm.
The Swedes will now look to build on the positives from their early surge and overall effort as they move forward in conference play.
