SWEDES WIN 2-0 AGAINST SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE

Lindsborg, Kan. - The Bethany College Men's Soccer team hosted Southwestern College for a conference matchup on Saturday night. 

The Swedes have held their own at home all season long and the trend continued. They would come out strong offensively as they would get an early goal from Joshua Momodu off a corner kick by Shaid Mclean. The Swedes would add another goal late in the game by freshman Inigo Fernandez and that would be all the Swedes needed as they would go on to win by the score of 2-0. The defense played great shutting out Southwestern College and Jake Goldstein would get the clean sheet. Southwestern would finish the match with 12 shots, 1 save, and 14 fouls. The Swedes would finish the match with 8 shots, 4 saves, and 17 fouls. 

In the first half the Swedes came out a little slower than usual as it was a back for fourth battle between both sides. In the 18th minute of the half the Swedes would be granted a corner kick and would be able to capitalize on it. Freshman, Shahid Mclean, would take the corner and place it in the box right where Joshua Momodu was to be able to kick it in to give the Swedes the early 1-0 lead. That would be the only scoring action in the first half, Southwestern had chances as they took 6 shots in the half but nothing would fall for them in the half. 

Coming out of the half, the Swedes rallied behind the energy of the crowd as it was a great turnout at Anderson Stadium. The momentum was on the Swedes side and they would never look back. In the second half the Swedes defense stepped up when they were needed the most, defending Southwestern on every shot they took. The Jinx would take another 6 shots in the half but only 2 of them would be on target. The Swedes would add the final goal in the 78th minute of the match by Inigo Fernandez assisted by Shahid Mclean and Carlos Zamora. That would be the final in the match as the Swedes go on to pick up their 2nd win in a row to bring their conference record to 2-0 and overall record to 4-3.

The Bethany College Men's Soccer team will travel to Wichita, Kansas to match up against conference opponent Friends University Wednesday, September 28th, at 5:00 pm cst.
