SWEDES FALL IN SEASON OPENER AFTER HARD-FOUGHT BATTLE WITH TIGERS

Lindsborg, Kan. - The Bethany College Swedes Men's Soccer team played against Doane University in the first game of the season.

The match began as a tightly contested battle, with both teams eager to secure their first victory of the season. The Swedes found an early breakthrough in the 8th minute of the first half, when #29 Richard Livingston won possession and delivered a precise assist to #30 Yandel Ramos, who marked his debut in style by scoring his first collegiate goal.

From that moment on, the game became more fragmented, especially in midfield. A series of fouls—some called, others overlooked by the referee—combined with long balls from both sides made it difficult to keep the ball on the ground, particularly under the challenging weather conditions in Lindsborg.

The second half, however, saw a complete shift in momentum. The Tigers came out energized after halftime, pressing the Swedes' defense from the outset. In the 50th minute, Doane earned a penalty kick, but goalkeeper #49 Gunvald Andresen came up big, stopping the attempt with the help of the post. Despite the save, the Nebraska side maintained their pressure, and within just five minutes (56' and 60'), striker Nicolas Jones and midfielder Eduardo Morschel netted one each to put the Tigers in front.

Stunned but not defeated, the Swedes responded with several substitutions and managed to regain control of the match in stretches, creating a couple of clear chances that nearly produced an equalizer. Unfortunately, in the 77th minute, the Tigers struck again to score their third goal, effectively sealing the contest. Despite a determined effort in the closing stages, the Swedes were unable to close the gap, falling 1–3 at home.
